Art et Decoration was a popular Parisian design magazine whose first edition was published in January 1897. It was dedicated to showing off the latest trends in the decorative arts and Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles, and was inspired by its British counterpart The Studio which ran from 1893-1964... the two even occasionally shared articles!

The interior decor project shown in the image was headed by Francis Jourdain (1876-1958), a painter, illustrator, furniture maker, interior designer, and ceramicist. A self-titled pioneer of the Modernist movement, initiating the doctrine of functionalism as of the 1900s. He theorized that modern decorative arts could be applied to every day life by way of useful, refined, unadorned furniture, designed to be mass-produced at a low price.
